Check for supported PHP versions... configure: error: not supported. Need a PHP version >= 7.2.0 and < 8.2.0 (found PHP 7.2.34-37+0~20230106.78+debian11~1.gbp1ece37 (cli) (built: Jan 6 2023 18:38:02) ( NTS )

Where did you get that PHP with such a "weird" version number from? Debian correctly just shows 7.4.33 for example.

For what it's worth, it is not -37+0~20230106.78+debian11~1.gbp1ece37 that is the problem, as it handles suffixes like -dev fine. I think it is the prefix PHP, which does not normally exist:

$ php-config --version
7.2.35-dev

Yours will have PHP prefixed, and that is not OK.

I have since got a new laptop but my old laptop is still available. I think that I had issues getting WSL2 installed because the laptop was too old. I managed to get past my issue by upgrading the hardware.

Okay, I am going to have to close this then, as I couldn't reproduce this, and this also does not seem to be a problem for you any more.
